Climate Skaters Kitezi Ltd. ist eine bahnbrechende gemeinnützige Sportorganisation im Herzen von Kitezi Bumbu, einem Slumgebiet in Uganda, die sich zum Ziel gesetzt hat, das Leben von Jugendlichen mittels Skateboarding und Umweltschutzaktionen zu verändern. Durch die Nutzung der Energie und Kreativität des Skateboardens befähigt die Organisation Jugendliche dazu, sich für ökologische Nachhaltigkeit einzusetzen und sie von negativen Einflüssen wie Drogen und Kriminalität fernzuhalten. Durch dynamische Veranstaltungen, Bildungsangebote, Workshops und Öffentlichkeitsarbeit schärft Climate Skaters Kitezi nicht nur das Bewusstsein für den Klimawandel, sondern bietet jungen Menschen auch ein sicheres, produktives Ventil, um ihre Energie in positive, wirkungsvolle Aktionen für ihre Gemeinschaft und den Planeten zu lenken. Das Ziel der Organisation ist es, eine Bewegung aufzubauen, in der Skateboarding zu einer Kraft für den ökologischen und sozialen Wandel wird.

Die treibende Kraft hinter dem Projekt ist Cynthia Kemigisha, die ehemalige Generalsekretärin der Uganda Skateboarding Union . Sie war davon überzeugt, dass der Bau eines Skateparks in der Gegend Jugendlichen eine andere Lebensalternative bieten würde, als sich an illegalen Handlungen zu beteiligen.

Kiteezi ist ein Slum, erzählt Cynthia, und die Jugendlichen in der Gegend sind anfällig für Drogensucht und Alkoholismus, aber mit einer Sporteinrichtung wie einem Skatepark in der Gegend haben die Jugendlichen durch Sport eine zweite Chance auf ein Leben bekommen.

Auf einer Fläche von 20x30 Metern entstand eine Rampe, und es gibt Pläne für eine Bowl und eine Street-Skate-Anlage. Cynthia wollte klein anfangen und den Skateboardern einen sicheren Ort geben, an dem sie üben können. Die Jungs in der Gegend waren der Gefahr ausgesetzt, Unfälle zu erleiden, weil sie auf der Straße übten, also beschlossen wir, den Skatepark einzurichten, sagte sie. Mittlerweile ist sie stolz auf ihre rund 50 Skater:innen, die die Grundlagen des Skateboarding beherrschen.
Um den Bau der Anlage zu finanzieren, appellierte Cynthia appelliert an die Öffentlichkeit und verschiedene Interessengruppen, zum Bau der Anlage beizutragen und den Athleten eine Chance zu geben, sich im Wettbewerb zu bewähren. Das Land hat bereits zwei Skateparks in Betrieb, einen in Mukono und einen in Kitintale, betonte sie, und wenn jeder seinen Beitrag zu diesem speziellen Park leistet, werden wir der schnell wachsenden Population der Skateboarder eine dritte Anlage zur Verfügung stellen. Seit 2024 freuen sich viele junge Menschen über dieses Angebot. Augustine Jjuuko, eine der Athlet:innen, die von dem neuen Skatepark profitieren, ist überglücklich, da die Einrichtung es Jugendlichen ermöglicht, ihre Jugend positiv zu leben.

Climate Skaters Kitezi Ltd. is a groundbreaking non profit sports organization located in the heart of Kitezi Bumbu, a slum area in Uganda, dedicated to transforming lives through skateboarding and climate action. By harnessing the energy and creativity of skateboarding, the organization empowers youth to become champions of environmental sustainability, steering them away from negative influences like drugs and crime. Through dynamic events, trainings, workshops, and community outreach, Climate Skaters Kitezi not only raises awareness about climate change but also provides a safe, productive outlet for young people to channel their energy into positive, impactful action for both their community and the planet. The organization’s mission is to build a movement where skateboarding becomes a force for environmental and social change.

The driving force behind the project is Cynthia Kemigisha, the former Secretary General of the Uganda Skateboarding Union . She was convinced that building a skatepark in the area would offer young people a different alternative to engaging in illegal activities.
Kiteezi is a slum, says Cynthia, and the youths in the area are prone to drug addiction and alcoholism, but with a sports facility like a skatepark in the area, the youths have been given a second chance at life through sports.
A ramp was built on a 20x30 metre area and there are plans for a bowl and a street skate facility. Cynthia wanted to start small and give the skateboarders a safe place to practise. The boys in the area were at risk of having accidents because they were practising on the street, so we decided to set up the skate park, she said. She is now proud of her 50 or so skaters who have mastered the basics of skateboarding.
To fund the construction of the facility, Cynthia appealed to the public and various stakeholders to contribute to the construction of the facility and give the athletes a chance to prove themselves in competition. The country already has two skate parks in operation, one in Mukono and one in Kitintale, she emphasised, and if everyone contributes to this particular park, we will provide a third facility for the rapidly growing population of skateboarders. Many young people have been looking forward to this offer since 2024. Augustine Jjuuko, one of the athletes benefiting from the new skatepark, is overjoyed as the facility enables young people to live their youth in a positive way.

Cynthia ging es von Anfang an nicht nur darum, Kindern und Jugendlichen eine Möglichkeit zu bieten, sich sportlich zu entwickeln – sie verfolgte auch eine Bildungsidee. Deshalb beteiligen sich die Mitglieder des Skateclubs auch an einem Klimaschutzprogramm und führen Recyclingprojekte durch, um die Umweltverschmutzung vor Ort. zu verringern.

From the very beginning, Cynthia was not only interested in offering children and young people an opportunity to develop their sporting skills — she also pursued an educational idea. That's why the members of the skate club are also involved in a climate protection programme and carry out recycling projects to reduce local pollution.

Ich hatte die Ehre, sportainable beim Deutschen Nachhaltigkeitspreis zu vertreten, gemeinsam mit unserer jungen Forscherin Stella Thomm aus der Denkfabrik. Ich habe viele bekannte Gesichter getroffen und festgestellt, dass ich in der Sport-Nachhaltigkeitszene doch schon recht gut vernetzt bin – besser, als ich dachte!

Diese zwei Tage waren vor allem eines: inspirierend. Ich durfte von Menschen lernen, die mit Leidenschaft für eine nachhaltige Zukunft einstehen...

Labor Tempelhof, vorgestellt von Bela B (Die Ärzte) und CradletoCradle, zeigte eindrucksvoll, wie nachhaltige Großveranstaltungen gelingen können.
Aktivistinnen wie Domitila Barros und zahlreiche spannende Vorträge, Panel-Talks und Workshops boten wertvolle Einblicke:
Nachhaltigkeit im Sport mit Marika Bernhard, Karin Orgeldinger, Michaela Röhrbein, Tim Thormann und Moderatorin Alina Lawrenz.
Transformation des Gesundheitswesens, präsentiert von Prof. Dr. Eckart von Hirschhausen

... und ich durfte beeindruckende Themen erleben – innovative Produkte, „grüne KI-Revolution“ und vieles mehr.

Ein Moment, der mir besonders in Erinnerung bleibt, war die Laudatio von Prof. Dr. Werner Sobek bei der Verleihung des Ehrenpreises für visionäre nachhaltige Gestaltung an seinen Freund und Kollegen Matteo Thun. In nur zehn Minuten formulierte Prof. Sobek so viele kluge, berührende und inspirierende Gedanken, dass sie noch heute, knapp zwei Wochen nach dem Event, nachhallen. Er stellte drei seiner 17 Thesen zur Nachhaltigkeit vor, darunter die prägnante These 17: „Natura mensura est.“ Von „Deus mensura est“ (Gott ist das Maß aller Dinge) über „Homo mensura est“ (Der Mensch ist das Maß aller Dinge) sind wir heute bei „Ego mensura est“ (Ich bin das Maß aller Dinge) angekommen. Doch wo müssen wir hin? Seine Botschaft: „Natura mensura est“ – die Natur muss das Maß aller Dinge sein.

Die Natur ist die Grundlage menschlichen Lebens. Ohne sie gibt es keine Zukunft für uns. Es ist dringend notwendig, unser Verhältnis zur Natur radikal zu überdenken. Wir müssen aufhören, die Natur nur als „Umwelt“ wahrzunehmen – als etwas, das uns umgibt, aber nicht Teil von uns ist. Denn diese Sichtweise ist trügerisch. Die „Umwelt“ ist unser Lebensraum, und wenn wir ihn zerstören, zerstören wir unsere eigene Lebensgrundlage. Die Welt wird weiter existieren – aber ohne uns.

Als besondere Geste ergänzte Prof. Sobek seine 17 Thesen um eine weitere, die er Matteo Thun widmete: „Dein Tun berührt mein Leben.“

Wir alle sind miteinander verbunden. Jede Form der Verschmutzung unserer Welt – sei es durch Emissionen, Müll oder destruktives Gedankengut – betrifft uns alle, überall. Mich. Dich. Deine Liebsten.

Dieses Bewusstsein muss unser Handeln leiten.

Ich bin dankbar für diese zwei Tage voller Inspiration und für die vielen Impulse, die ich mitnehme, um meinen Beitrag zu einer nachhaltigeren Zukunft zu leisten. ��

I had the honour of representing sportainable at the German Sustainability Award, together with our young researcher Stella Thomm from the Denkfabrik. I met a lot of familiar faces and realised that I am already quite well connected in the sport sustainability scene - better than I thought!

These two days were one thing above all: inspiring. I was able to learn from people who are passionate about a sustainable future...

Labor Tempelhof, presented by Bela B (Die Ärzte) and CradletoCradle, showed impressively how large-scale sustainable events can succeed.
Activists such as Domitila Barros and numerous exciting lectures, panel talks and workshops offered valuable insights:

... and I was able to experience impressive topics - innovative products, the ‘green AI revolution’ and much more.

One moment that will stay with me in particular was the laudatory speech by Prof. Dr Werner Sobek at the presentation of the Honorary Award for Visionary Sustainable Design to his friend and colleague Matteo Thun. In just ten minutes, Prof Sobek formulated so many clever, touching and inspiring thoughts that they still resonate today, almost two weeks after the event. He presented three of his 17 theses on sustainability, including the succinct thesis 17: ‘Natura mensura est.’ From ‘Deus mensura est’ (God is the measure of all things) to ‘Homo mensura est’ (Man is the measure of all things), we have now arrived at ‘Ego mensura est’ (I am the measure of all things). But where do we need to go? His message: ‘Natura mensura est’ - nature must be the measure of all things.

Nature is the basis of human life. Without it, there is no future for us. There is an urgent need to radically rethink our relationship with nature. We must stop perceiving nature only as an ‘environment’ - as something that surrounds us but is not part of us. Because this view is deceptive. The ‘environment’ is our habitat, and if we destroy it, we destroy our own livelihood. The world will continue to exist - but without us.

As a special gesture, Prof Sobek added another to his 17 theses, which he dedicated to Matteo Thun: ‘Your actions touch my life.’ We are all connected. Every form of pollution in our world - be it through emissions, waste or destructive ideas - affects us all, everywhere. Me. You. Your loved ones. This awareness must guide our actions.

I am grateful for these two days full of inspiration and for the many impulses that I am taking with me to make my contribution to a more sustainable future. ��

Coaching of LEW sponsorship recipients: second round completed

Seit zwei Jahren coachen wir Sponsoringnehmer der LEW in deren Auftrag in Hinsicht auf nachhaltige Entwicklung. Ging es anfangs darum, zu vermitteln, wie eine solche Entwicklung im Sportverein und bei Sportevents funktionieren kann und auf welchen Grundlagen sie basiert, haben die beteiligten Organisationen mittlerweile beachtliche Eigeninitiative ergriffen und bemerkenswerte Entwicklungsverläufe genommen.

In diesem letzten Workshop der zweiten Aufttragsrunde ging es darum, die eigene CO2-Bilanz zu zeigen und ein Projekt zur Reduzierung der Emissionen zu beschreiben.

Wir von sportainable werden die Organsationen auf ihrem Entwicklungsweg weiter begleiten und sie als Beispiele für Best Practice in das umfassende Rahmenprojekt "together we score" mit dem Bayerischen Landessport-Verband" einführen.

For the past two years, we have been coaching LEW sponsorship recipients on behalf of LEW with regard to sustainable development. Initially, the aim was to convey how such development can work in sports clubs and at sporting events and on what foundations it is based, meanwhile the organisations involved have taken considerable initiative and made remarkable progress.

In this last workshop of the second round of the project, the aim was to demonstrate the organisation's own carbon footprint and describe a project to reduce emissions.

We at sportainable will continue to accompany the organisations on their development path and introduce them as examples of best practice in the comprehensive framework project ‘together we score’ with the Bavarian State Sports Association.

��️ Das Institut für Entrepreneurship & Innovation der Universität Bayreuth veranstaltet monatlich ein " Bottles & Founders ", bei dem Gründer von Start-ups von interessiertem Publikum im " Bottles ", einer Bayreuther Szenekneipe, ihre Geschichte erzählen. Unter dem Motto "Puls & Points" war am 14. November 2024 u.a. Peter Kuhn eingeladen, die Geschichte von sportainable zu erzählen.

�� Er schilderte seine biografischen Anfänge in der Friedensbewegung der 1970er-Jahre, die dann in die grüne Bewegung der 1980er-Jahre mündete, über sein erstes Forschungsprojekt zu " Indoor-Sport und Ökologie " in den frühen 1990er-Jahren bis zur Gründung der Denkfabrik sportainable im Februar 2022 und der sportainable gemeinnützige Unternehmergesellschaft (haftungsbeschränkt) im Juni 2023. Dabei betonte er die Bedeutung mitentscheidender Menschen, die ihm Türen geöffnet und Wege geebnet haben. Er stellte die Denkfabrik sportainable als gemeinnützige außeruniversitäre Forschungs- und Bildungseinrichtung sowie als internationales Netzwerk von gegenwärtig 130 Personen - 80 Seniors und 50 Juniors - und 20 gleichgesinnten Partnerorganisationen vor, das sich mit Forschungs- und Bildungsprojekten der nachhaltigen Sportentwicklung widmet.

��‍♀️ Als größte Herausforderung bezeichnete er die Frage, wie groß das Rad gedreht werden sollte: klein und überwiegend ehrenamtlich oder groß und teilweise hauptamtlich, wobei sich die Frage stellt, woher die Mittel zur Finanzierung von Personal kommen sollen: Mäzene? Sponsoren? Spenden? Drittmittelanträge? Dienstleistungsaufträge? Wie auch immer... Ein Ziel der Denkfabrik ist, Mittel zu generieren, mit denen insbesondere junge Menschen für Forschungsvorhaben bis hin zur Promotion finanziert werden können. Zu diesem Zweck werden auch strategische Partnerschaften mit Universitäten geschmiedet.

��️ The Institute for Entrepreneurship & Innovation at the University of Bayreuth organises a monthly ‘ Bottles & Founders ’ event, where founders of start-ups tell their stories to an interested audience in ‘ Bottles ’, a trendy Bayreuth pub. Under the motto ‘Puls & Points’, Peter Kuhn was invited to tell the story of sportainable on 14 November 2024.

�� He described his biographical beginnings in the peace movement of the 1970s, which then led to the green movement of the 1980s, his first research project on ‘indoor sport and ecology’ in the early 1990s and the founding of the sportainable think tank in February 2022 and sportainable non-profit entrepreneurial company (limited liability) in June 2023. He emphasised the importance of co-decisive people who opened doors and paved the way for him. He presented the sportainable think tank as a non-profit, non-university research and educational institution as well as an international network of currently 130 people - 80 seniors and 50 juniors - and 20 like-minded partner organisations dedicated to sustainable sport development through research and educational projects.

��‍♀️ He described the biggest challenge as the question of how big the wheel should be turned: small and predominantly voluntary or large and partly full-time, with the question of where the funds to finance personnel should come from: Patrons? Sponsors? Donations? Applications for third-party funding? Service contracts? Whatever... One aim of the think tank is to generate funds that can be used to finance young people in particular for research projects up to doctoral level. To this end, strategic partnerships are also forged with universities.

Beim Young Leaders Sports Forum der Sportjugenden der deutsche Großstädte München, Leipzig, Stuttgart, Dresden, Mannheim und Nürnberg in Chemnitz war sportainable mit einem Workshop zum Thema „Spieglein, Spieglein an der Wand: Wie werde ich zum nachhaltigsten Sportverein im ganzen Land?“ vertreten.

Prof. Dr. Manuel Sand gab in drei verschiedenen Runden Impulse zu Herausforderungen, Chancen und Lösungsansätzen zum Thema Nachhaltigkeit im Sportverein.

Die teilnehmenden jungen Engagierten aus Sportvereinen aus den Großstädten München, Leipzig, Stuttgart, Dresden, Mannheim und Nürnberg, waren anschließend gefordert, zu verschiedenen Aspekten, wie z.B. Ressourcen, CO2 Ausstoß oder Vereinsstrukturen, zu diskutieren und gemeinsam Aspekte zusammenzutragen. Dabei entstanden viele gute Ideen und Ansätze , die Prof. Sand abschließend zusammenfasste und einordnete.

Wir hoffen, die jungen Menschen tragen die Aspekte und Ideen in ihre jeweiligen Vereine – wir von sportainable unterstützen gerne bei der Umsetzung.

At the Young Leaders Sports Forum of the sports youth organisations of the major German cities of Munich, Leipzig, Stuttgart, Dresden, Mannheim and Nuremberg in Chemnitz, sportainable was represented with a workshop on the topic of ‘Mirror, mirror on the wall: Who plays the most sustainable ball?’.

Prof Dr Manuel Sand gave impulses in three different rounds on the challenges, opportunities and solutions for sustainability in sports clubs.

The young participants from sports clubs in the cities of Munich, Leipzig, Stuttgart, Dresden, Mannheim and Nuremberg were then asked to discuss various aspects, such as resources, CO2 emissions or club structures, and to collect aspects together. This resulted in many good ideas and approaches, which Prof. Sand then summarised and classified.

We hope that the young people will take these aspects and ideas back to their respective clubs — we at sportainable will be happy to help them implement them.

Joint application for research funding with the University of Ghana to the Daimler and Benz Foundation

Ziel der gemeinnützigen Daimler und Benz Stiftung ist die "Förderung von Wissenschaft und Forschung zur Klärung der Wechselbeziehungen zwischen Mensch, Umwelt und Technik. Sie fördert zudem den Dialog zwischen der interessierten Öffentlichkeit und Wissenschaftlern verschiedener Fachrichtungen".

Im Juli dieses Jahres hat die Stiftung einen Aufruf zur Einreichung von Bewerbungen für ein Forschungsprojekt in Zusammenarbeit mit Partnern aus afrikanischen Forschungseinrichtungen veröffentlicht. Dieser beabsichtigt, ein Forschungsprojekt mit einem Gesamtbetrag von bis zu 300.000 Euro zu unterstützen (Höchstdauer: 3 Jahre). Antragsberechtigt waren unabhängige Forschungsgruppenleiter (Professoren, Juniorprofessoren oder Habilitanden) an deutschen Hochschulen oder gemeinnützigen außeruniversitären Forschungseinrichtungen, die bereits Kontakte zu afrikanischen Forschungseinrichtungen unterhalten oder aufbauen möchten.

Auf Initiative von Kolleginnen und Kollegen der Universität Ghana haben wir uns gemeinsam mit ihnen auf diese Ausschreibung beworben. Diese Bewerbung ist für uns insofern von besonderer Bedeutung, als die Denkfabrik sportainable hier zum ersten Mal von einer Forschung fördernden Stiftung als gemeinnützige außeruniversitäre Forschungseinrichtung anerkannt wurde.

"The objective of the Daimler and Benz Foundation , a charitable institution, is to promote science and research in order to gain a better understanding of the interrelations between humans, the environment, and technology. It also promotes dialog between the interested public and scientists from various disciplines."

In July of this year, the foundation published a call for applications intending "to support a research project with a total amount of up to 300,000 euros (maximum duration: 3 years). Eligible to apply are independent research group leaders (professors, junior professors, or “Habilitanden” [candidates for lecturing positions]) at German universities or not-for-profit non-university research institutes who already maintain or would like to establish contacts with African research institutions."

On the initiative of colleagues at the University of Ghana, we have applied for this programme together with them. This application is of particular importance to us in that this is the first time that the sportainable think tank has been recognised by a research-promoting foundation as a not-for-profit non-university research institute.

�� Als außeruniversitäre Forschungseinrichtung initiiert die gemeinnützige Denkfabrik @sportainable Forschungsprojekte und veranstaltet jährlich ein internationales Sustainable Sports Symposium.
⚽️�� Beides dient dem Ziel, die nachhaltige Sportentwicklung zu fördern.

Die Niedersächsische Lotto-Sport-Stiftung ist 2009 gegründet worden zum Zweck, den Sport und die Integration von Menschen mit Zuwanderungsgeschichte zu fördern. Ein neues Projekt hat sich das Ziel gesetzt, in den Sportvereinen in Niedersachsen ehrenamtliche Klimabotschafter:innen oder Teams zu implementieren und ihnen einen Werkzeugkoffer mit Argumentationsgrundlagen, Ideen, Praxistipps und weiteren Hilfsmitteln, beiseitezustellen, damit sie in ihren Vereinen niedrigschwellige Aufklärungsarbeit leisten können.

Wir kooperieren zur Bildung für nachhaltige Entwicklung im Sportverein. Einen gemeinsamen Antrag auf Forschungsförderung zu diesem Thema haben wir bereits gestellt.

The Niedersächsische Lotto-Sport-Stiftung was founded in 2009 with the aim of promoting sport and the integration of people with a migrant background. A new project has set itself the goal of implementing volunteer climate ambassadors or teams in sports clubs in Lower Saxony and providing them with a toolbox containing arguments, ideas, practical tips and other aids so that they can carry out low-threshold educational work in their clubs.

We are cooperating on education for sustainable development in sports clubs. We have already submitted a joint application for research funding on this topic.

By leveraging skateboarding, the organization engages youth and the community in creative and impactful climate initiatives through skateboarding events,community clean-ups and greening, eco-workshops, and educational programs, Climate Skaters Kitezi uses sports as a platform for environmental awareness and sustainable behavior change.

This innovative model channels the energy of sports into positive environmental impact, transforming skateboarding into a force for social change and a pathway for youth to champion climate resilience in their communities.

Bereits unsere zweite Konferenz ließ deutlich werden, dass die Jahrestagung der Denkfabrik sportainable internationale Anziehungskraft erreicht hat. So konnten wir Kolleg:innen nicht nur aus anderen deutschsprachigen Ländern, sondern auch aus den Benelux-Ländern, aus Frankreich, aus Skandinavien, aus Großbrittannien und aus Irland willkommen heißen.

In 2025 wollen wir vom 1. bis 3. Juni in Leipzig mit dem Schwerpunktthema "Nachhaltige Organisationen und Veranstaltungen" tagen.

Our second conference already made it clear that the annual conference of the think tank sportainable has achieved international appeal. We were able to welcome colleagues not only from other German-speaking countries, but also from the Benelux countries, France, Scandinavia, the UK and Ireland.

In 2025, we plan to meet in Leipzig from 1 to 3 June with a focus on ‘Sustainable organisations and events’.

KATE Umwelt & Entwicklung e.V. ist seit 1997 eine gemeinnützige Beratungs- und Bildungsorganisation für nachhaltiges Wirtschaften und global gerechten Klimaschutz. Der Verein aus Stuttgart kooperiert mit kleinen bzw. mittelständischen Unternehmen sowie sozialen Organisationen. Die Sensibilisierungs- und Bildungsarbeit zu Klimagerechtigkeit, fairer Globalisierung und nachhaltiger Entwicklung zählt zu ihren den Kernbereichen. Dabei ist KATEs Bildungsverständnis lösungsorientiert und zielt auf das Empowerment der Zielgruppen ab um diese gezielt ins Handeln zu bringen. Seit 2022 begleitet KATE auch Sportvereine und -verbände, wie z.B. den Deutschen Badminton-Verband e.V., bei der nachhaltigen Transformation und der Umsetzung der 17 SDGs.

Wir haben vereinbart, gemeinsame Projekte aufzulegen. Einen gemeinsamen Antrag auf Forschungsförderung haben wir bereits gestellt.

KATE Umwelt & Entwicklung e.V. has been a non-profit consulting and educational organization for sustainable management and global climate justice since 1997. The Stuttgart-based association cooperates with small and medium-sized enterprises as well as social organizations. Raising awareness and providing education on climate justice, fair globalization, and sustainable development are among its core areas. KATE’s approach to education is solution-oriented and aims to empower their target groups to take action and to experience self-efficacy. Since 2022, KATE has also been supporting and guiding sports clubs and associations, such as the German Badminton Association, in their sustainable transformation and the implementation of the 17 SDGs.

We have agreed to set up joint projects. We have already submitted a joint application for research funding.

Bekanntlich haben wir die .eco domain Top-Level Domain-Endung. Warum eigentlich? Typisch für Social Entrepreneurs ist die Domain-Endung .org. Wir aber wollten deutlich machen, dass wir uns dem Nachhaltigkeitsgedanken verpflichtet fühlen. Also haben wir uns im Januar 2022 um das .eco-Suffix beworben.

Wer dieses Suffix haben will, muss einen Domain-Provider finden, der diese Endung verkauft, die Domain dort registrieren lassen und sich dann auf https://go.eco/search/ bewerben.

.eco steht Unternehmen, gemeinnützigen Organisationen und Einzelpersonen zur Verfügung, die sich für eine nachhaltige Zukunft einsetzen. Eine .eco-Website sollte einen Umweltfokus haben oder die umweltfreundlichen Maßnahmen, die sie ergreifen, klar artikulieren. Da wir diese Kriterien erfüllen, war unsere Bewerbung erfolgreich.

As you know, we have the .eco domain top-level domain extension. Why is that? The .org domain extension is typical for social entrepreneurs. However, we wanted to make it clear that we are committed to sustainability. So we applied for the .eco suffix in January 2022.

If you want this suffix, you have to find a domain provider that sells this extension, register the domain there and then apply at https://go.eco/search/ .

.eco is available to companies, non-profit organisations and individuals who are committed to a sustainable future. A .eco website should have an environmental focus or clearly articulate the environmentally friendly actions they are taking. As we fulfil these criteria, our application was successful.

European Union legislation in the context of the European Green Deal has produced three directives that are relevant to the sports sector: the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), the Green Claims Directive and the Empower Consumers Directive. Global Sustainable Sport (GSS) is a digital research and publishing organisation focused on sport and sustainability. GSS has developed a global platform that provides data and information on all the latest developments in sport and sustainability. GSS is developing a standard framework to define sustainability in a sporting context, called the 7 Sustainable Pillars of Sport. GSS is currently developing an online educational course on sport and sustainability which will provide education to all levels of the sports industry and it recently launched its sustainability accelerator programme, called GSSport24, which is encouraging and helping sports organisations to develop their sustainability programmes.

Emissionen werden reduziert, indem fossile Energiequellen durch erneuerbare Energien ersetzt, lokale Aufforstungsmaßnahmen mit Kleinbauern umgesetzt und energieeffiziente Technologien implementiert werden. Erfahrene Beraterinnen und Berater helfen Firmen im Geschäftsfeld CO₂- und Ressourcen-Management beim Identifizieren und Erschließen von Potentialen. In den über 197 Klimaschutzprojekten von myclimate wurden bisher über 17,34 Mio. t CO₂ Reduktionen finanziert, 24 Mio. Bäume gepflanzt und 22.400 Arbeitsplätze geschaffen.

Im Auftrag der Lechwerke AG gestalten wir einen Workshop zur nachhaltigen Sportentwicklung für Sponsoringnehmer.

Auf einen "Crash-Kurs" zum Thema Nachhaltigkeit und einen themenspezifischen Input zur Sportmobilität durch Dr. Peter Kuhn folgt eine erste Workshop-Phase, in der sich die teilnehmenden Organisationen mit diesen Fragen beschäftigen:

1. Welchen Mobilitätsbedarf haben wir in unserer Organisation?
2. Was tun wir schon, um den Modal Split in Richtung Umweltverbund zu verschieben?
3. Was könnten wir tun, um noch besser zu werden?

Anschließend referiert Dr. Peter Kuhn grundsätzliche Lösungsansätze: Ökoroutine, Bildung, Werbung und Nudging.

In der zweiten Workshop-Phase arbeiten die Teilnehmenden an folgenden Fragen:

1. Was brauchen wir – von Verbänden, Kommune, ÖPV – um besser zu werden?
2. Wie könnten wir in unseren Organisationen den Modal Split durch Bildung, Werbung und Nudging beeinflussen?
Zum Abschluss entwickeln sie eine Roadmap der Mobilitätswende in der eigenen Organisation.

On behalf of Lechwerke AG, we organised a workshop on sustainable sports development for sponsors.
A ‘crash course’ on sustainability and a topic-specific input on sports mobility by Dr Peter Kuhn was followed by an initial workshop phase in which the participating organisations addressed the following questions
1. what mobility needs do we have in our organisation?
2. what are we already doing to shift the modal split towards eco-mobility?
3. what could we do to become even better?
Dr Peter Kuhn then talked about fundamental solutions: Eco-routine, education, advertising and nudging.
In the second phase of the workshop, participants worked on the following questions:
1. what do we need - from associations, municipality, public transport - to become better?
2. how could we influence the modal split in our organisations through education, advertising and nudging?
Finally, they developed a roadmap for the mobility transition in their own organisation.

Unser erstes Sustainable Sports Symposium ist Geschichte und es war ein voller Erfolg. Drei sonnige Tage mit einem Workshop für die Mitglieder der Denkfabrik, zwei Grußworten durch den Oberbürgermeister der Stadt Bayreuth, Thomas Ebersberger, und die Vizepräsidentin der Universität Bayreuth, Prof. Dr. Susanne Tittlbach, vier Keynotes – Dr. Elvira Kronbichler, Jennifer Amann, Moritz Koller und Prof. Dr. Pierre Ibisch –, mit 21 Vorträgen, 7 Workshops, Wake-up runs am Morgen und Social Events am Abend für insgesamt 88 Teilnehmer:innen (siehe oben) – das alles organisiert durch ein Team von 23 Kolleg:innen, studentischen Hilfskräften und freiwilligen Helfer:innen (siehe unten).

Wir danken der Universität Bayreuth für ihre Gastgeberschaft und ihre kommunikative Unterstützung der Tagung. Our first Sustainable Sports Symposium is history and it was a resounding success. Three sunny days with a workshop for the members of the think tank, two welcoming speeches by the Lord Mayor of Bayreuth, Thomas Ebersberger, and the Vice President of the University of Bayreuth, Prof. Dr. Susanne Tittlbach, four keynotes—Dr. Elvira Kronbichler, Jennifer Amann, Moritz Koller and Prof. Dr. Pierre Ibisch—, with 21 lectures, 7 workshops, wake-up runs in the morning and social events in the evening for a total of 88 participants (see above)—all organized by a team of 23 colleagues, student staff and volunteers (see below).

We thank the University of Bayreuth for their hosting and communicative support of the conference. We thank BaySpo —Bayreuth Center of Sport Science and BayCeer —Bayreuth Center of Ecology and Environmental Research for their great organization and running of the conference. Als eine von drei Finalistinnen stellte Julia Lohmann, Mitgründerin und Gesellschafterin der sportainable gUG und wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin am Institut für Sportwissenschaft der Universität Augsburg, am 14. September 2023 ihre Arbeit zu Perspektiven und Herausforderungen nachhaltiger Entwicklung im Sport beim World Sustainability Forum in Basel vor. Besonders im Bereich der Bildung für eine nachhaltige Entwicklung im Sport ist sie eine der führenden Wissenschaftlerinnen weltweit. Die Verknüpfung von Wissenschaft und Praxis, die auch ein wichtiges Grundprinzip unserer Denkfabrik ist, ist die Grundlage ihrer wissenschaftlichen Arbeiten und Lehrtätigkeiten. Der Emerging Sustainability Leader Award zeichnet herausragende junge Wissenschaftler:innen aus, die sich wissenschaftlich und praktisch für die Gestaltung einer nachhaltigen Entwicklung in den verschiedensten gesellschaftlichen Bereichen einsetzen. In diesem Jahr hatten sich dafür über hundert engagierte junge Menschen aus der ganzen Welt beworben. Wir gratulieren Julia Lohmann herzlich zum zweiten Platz!

As one of three finalists, Julia Lohmann, co-founder and shareholder of sportainable gUG and research associate at the Institute of Sport Science at the University of Augsburg, presented her work on perspectives and challenges of sustainable development in sport at the World Sustainability Forum in Basel on September 14, 2023. Especially in the field of education for sustainable development in sport, she is one of the leading scholars worldwide. Linking science and practice, which is also an important founding principle of our think tank, is the basis of her scientific work and teaching activities. The Emerging Sustainability Leader Award recognizes outstanding young scientists who are working scientifically and practically to shape sustainable development in a wide range of social areas. This year, more than one hundred committed young people from all over the world applied for the award. We congratulate Julia Lohmann on her second place!

Sich nachhaltig entwickeln ist eine große Herausforderung im Profisport. Mindestens ebenso anspruchsvoll ist es, die eigenen nachhaltige Entwicklung zu kommunizieren. Zu diesem Thema führten wir mit den Augsburger Panthern einen Tagesworkshop durch. Zu Beginn lieferte Dr. Peter Kuhn Input zu Grundlagen der Nachhaltigkeitskommunikation. Anschließend entwickelten die Teilnehmenden gemeinsam mit ihm eine Kommunikationsstrategie. Wesentlich dabei waren sieben Aspekte: Authentizität, Glaubwürdigkeit, Transparenz, Dialog, Handprint, Claim und Story. Den Abschluss des Workshops bildeten die Fixierung der Ergebnisse und das Schreiben einer Roadmap.

Sustainable development is a major challenge in professional sport. Communicating their own sustainable development is at least as challenging. We organised a one-day workshop on this topic with the Augsburg Panthers. To begin with, Dr Peter Kuhn provided input on the basics of sustainability communication. The participants then worked with him to develop a communication strategy. Seven aspects were essential here: Authenticity, credibility, transparency, dialogue, handprint, claim and story. The workshop concluded with the finalisation of the results and the writing of a roadmap.

Am 3. Juni 2023 konnten wir einen weiteren Meilenstein in der noch jungen Geschichte der Denkfabrik sportainable erreichen — wir haben an diesem Tag einen Förderverein gegründet, der Mittel für Forschungs- und Bildungsprojekte der Denkfabrik einsammeln wird. In den nächsten Wochen werden wir den Verein in das Vereinsregister eintragen lassen sowie die Anerkennung als gemeinnütziger Förderverein beantragen. Bald wird es also möglich sein, dem Förderverein beizutreten und Projekte der Denkfabrik sportainable zu unterstützen.

Die Führung des Vereins besteht aus neun Personen: Sebastian Kleine , 1. Vorsitzender, Amrei Wagner , 2. Vorsitzende, Elke Sauter , Schatzmeisterin, Andreas Kopp , Schriftführer, den Kassenprüfern, Volker Audorff und Fabian Sommer sowie den beratenden Vorstandsmitgliedern Leon Höfner , Dr. Nathalie Prüschenk und Fabian Steiner . Weitere Gründungsmitglieder sind Dr. Sabine Hafner , Prof. Dr. Manfred Miosga und Prof. Dr. Peter Kuhn .

On June 3, 2023 we reached another milestone in the still young history of the think tank sportainable—on this day we founded a booster club, which will collect funds for research and educational projects of the think tank. In the next few weeks, we will have the club entered in the register of associations and apply for recognition as a non-profit association. Soon it will be possible to join the association and support projects of the think tank sportainable.

The board of the association consists of nine persons: Sebastian Kleine , 1st chairperson, Amrei Wagner , 2nd chairperson, Elke Sauter , treasurer, Andreas Kopp , secretary, the cash auditors, Volker Audorff and Fabian Sommer , and the advisory board members, Leon Höfner , Dr. Nathalie Prüschenk and Fabian Steiner . Other founding members are Dr. Sabine Hafner , Prof. Dr. Manfred Miosga and Prof. Dr. Peter Kuhn .

The club's logo is based on that of the think tank and surrounds it with an open circle - as a sign of support and openness to all who want to participate.

What is Ecopoint Climbing?

The Ecopoint concept extends the notion of redpoint by including the approach by fair means (public transport, bike, boat, foot):

THE STORY OF ECOPOINT

In 2020, after climbing the tradroute ‘Prinzip Hoffnung’ by public transport, Lena Müller had the idea to give this sustainable approach to climbing a name. The reason being that language shapes our thoughts and cultures – including our climbing culture. Hence creating new terms could support our actions, such as our approach to climbing. She suggested the term greenpoint, not being aware that the term already existed. Together with Sofie Paulus they now want to introduce this concept under the name ecopoint to raise awareness and promote sustainable climbing.

MISSION & FOUNDER
The mission of Ecopoint is to promote and enhance sustainable mobility in climbing by providing a freely accessible community platform, where climbers can inform and inspire each other to climb more sustainably. Read more here about how to contribute your ecopoint knowledge.
The concept was founded by the non-profit association IG Klettern und Bergsport Allgäu e. V. , whose aim is to promote and preserve climbing and mountaineering as sustainable sport in the Allgäu Alps. The idea and the realisation came from Lena Müller .

Dieser soll dafür qualifizieren, nachhaltige Entwicklung in Sportorganisationen zu gestalten. Der Lehrgang ist als Kooperation zwischen der IHK, dem Sports for Future e.V. und der Denkfabrik sportainable angelegt und beginnt am 24. April 2023 in Duisburg.

On the initiative of Joachim Raschke from the Nuremberg Chamber of Commerce and Industry for Middle Franconia and Prof. Dr. Torsten Weber from the CBS International Business School, the idea arose to set up a certificate course "Sustainability Manager in Sports". This is intended to qualify students to shape sustainable development in sports organizations. In seinem Vortrag auf dem Kongress ZUKUNFT SPORT des Bayerischen Landessportverbands (BLSV) am 29. Mai 2022 regte Dr. Peter Kuhn an, eine "Entwicklungsallianz ZUKUNFT SPORT BAYERN NACHHALTIG" zu gründen. Diese Allianz sollte im Kern aus den Partnern BLSV, Universität Bayreuth und Denkfabrik sportainable bestehen und zum einen konkrete Projekte verfolgen und zum anderen weitere Partner ins Boot holen. Am 6. September 2022 wurde hierfür eine Kooperationsvereinbarung unterzeichnet. Darin werden folgende Themen angesteuert in Klammer Bezüge zu den SDGs der Vereinten Nationen):

Widerstandsfähige Sportinfrastruktur (Ziel 9) mit nachhaltiger und moderner Energie (Ziel 7) für den vereins- und verbandseigenen Sportstättenbau und die weitere Gebäudeinfrastruktur der Vereine und Verbände zur Förderung von nachhaltigen Städten und Siedlungen (Ziel 11)
Nachhaltiges Wachstum der Bewirtschaftung von Sportvereinen und Sportverbänden (Ziel 8) einschließlich des nachhaltigen Konsums von sportbezogenem Material (Ziel 12) bspw. im Übungs-, Trainings- und Wettkampfbetrieb sowie bei Sportveranstaltungen
Maßnahmen zum Klimaschutz (Ziel 13) durch Sportvereine und Sportverbände, bspw. im Hinblick auf die Mobilität im Sport
Maßnahmen zur Bildung für nachhaltige Entwicklung (Ziel 4) im Sport

In his presentation at the ZUKUNFT SPORT congress of the Bavarian State Sports Association (BLSV) on May 29, 2022, Dr. Peter Kuhn suggested establishing a "ZUKUNFT SPORT BAYERN NACHHALTIG" development alliance. This alliance should essentially consist of the partners BLSV, University of Bayreuth and think tank sportainable and on the one hand pursue concrete projects and on the other hand bring other partners on board. On September 6, 2022, a cooperation agreement was signed for this purpose. The agreement addresses the following topics (references to the United Nations SDGs in parentheses):

Resilient sports infrastructure (Goal 9) with sustainable and modern energy (Goal 7) for club- and association-owned sports facility construction and the further building infrastructure of clubs and associations to promote sustainable cities and settlements (Goal 11).
Sustainable growth in the management of sports clubs and associations (Goal 8), including sustainable consumption of sports-related materials (Goal 12), e.g. in practice, training and competition operations and at sports events
Measures for climate protection (Goal 13) by sports clubs and sports associations, e.g. with regard to mobility in sports
Measures for education for sustainable development (Goal 4) in sports

Zusammen mit Fresh Thoughts Consulting gewinnt sportainable den Ausschreibungswettbewerb des Bundesministeriums für Umwelt, Naturschutz, nukleare Sicherheit und Verbraucherschutz (BMUV) zur Organisation des Dialogforums „Nachhaltiger Sport 2023“ am 27. September .2023 in Berlin. Ab heute organisieren wir gemeinsam die Tagung, die alle entscheidenden Anspruchsgruppen in einem vielfältigen Programm zusammenbringen wird.

Together with Fresh Thoughts Consulting , sportainable wins the competitive bidding process of the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV) for the organization of the dialog forum "Sustainable Sport 2023" on September 27, 2023 in Berlin. As of today, we are jointly organizing the conference, which will bring together all key stakeholders in a diverse program.

Die Entscheidung für diese Rechtsform fiel in Hinsicht auf die Kombination von Non-Profit-Organisation und Agilität. Bei der Besetzung haben wir auf Alters-, Gender- und Expertisediversität geachtet.

On June 30, 2022, the shareholders Jörg Förster, Dr. Peter Kuhn, Dr. Julia Lohmann and Amrei Wagner found the "sportainable non-profit entrepreneurial company (limited liability)" as the operating company of the think tank sportainable. The decision for this legal form was made with regard to the combination of non-profit organization and agility. We paid attention to age, gender and expertise diversity in the staffing.

Am 5. April 2022 treffen sich Peter Kuhn von der Denkfabrik und Marlon Wörndl sowie Matthias Epping in einem Video Meeting. Anlass: Der Allgäu Triathlon findet in 2022 zum 40. Mal statt und will mindenstens nochmal so oft stattfinden. Und dafür will er sich nachhaltig entwickeln. Auf der Suche nach einem Entwicklungspartner ist er auf die Denkfabrik gestoßen. Im Meeting entsteht gleich eine schöne gemeinsame Aufbruchsstimmung und wir vereinbaren eine fünfjährige Kooperation, in der wir den Allgäu Triathlon Jahr für Jahr und Schritt für Schritt nachhaltig entwickeln wollen.

Occasion: The Allgäu Triathlon will take place for the 40th time in 2022 and wants to take place at least as often again. And for this it wants to develop sustainably.
