Anne Dietrich

Lecturer, Mark H. McCormack Sport Management Department, University of Massachusetts-Amherst

Anne works at the intersection of sport and sustainability, helping sport organizations turn environmental commitments into meaningful strategy and action. She has collaborated with EuroLeague Basketball to assess club sustainability practices and co-develop a strategic framework for league-wide implementation. Anne also advises sport entities including the German Rowing Federation, Wasserman, and SailGP, and serves as a board member and Chair of the Sport Sustainability Committee for the Blue Water Institute and Film Festival.

Before joining academia, Anne gained hands-on sustainability experience in the private and consulting sectors, including roles at Tesla Inc., a European innovation consultancy, and with environmental initiatives such as Parley for the Oceans. She has partnered with international organizations on sport sustainability projects and presented at major events like the Sustainable Sports Symposium.

Originally from Leipzig, Anne combined her passions for sport and sustainability early on, competing as a rower and earning a scholarship to The Ohio State University, where she won three NCAA Championships. She holds a Ph.D. in Sport Management from Texas A&M University, a M.S. in Sustainable Development from the Universities of Leipzig and Utrecht, and a B.S. in Environment, Economy, Development and Sustainability from The Ohio State University. Anne’s work focuses on making sustainability tangible and value-creating for sport organizations and their stakeholders.
