Tervel Zwjatkow

Head of the competition commission in the German Karate Federation and event manager for karate tournaments

Tervel Zwjatkow, with his company Tervel Sport Events, is one of the world's leading event managers of karate tournaments and has organized and managed events in over 40 countries on four continents over the past decade. As one of the most widely practiced sports in the world, he wants to use this breadth to create or promote environmental and sustainability awareness among a large number of trainers and athletes as well as in federations and clubs through sporting events, thus making karate a leader in the field of sustainable sports.

At the federation sector, he works at all three levels of Olympic karate (national, continental and world). For example, he is a competition director in the German Karate Federation e.V. and this year initiated the Sustainable Sport Unit there, which he heads. Tervel is also chairman of the competition commission of the European Karate Federation and thus mainly responsible for the planning, organization and execution of all European Karate Championships. As a member of the World Karate Federation's Competition Commission, he is directly involved in the organization of all World Karate Championships and was the lead organizer of the only qualifying tournament for the Tokyo 2021 Olympic Games, under Corona conditions.

As a former competitive athlete at world and European level and a coach in the youth sector, he knows the needs of the various stakeholders in the sport and can therefore address them specifically. Already during his studies he worked as a tutor for operational environmental management and developed life cycle assessments during his internships in different medium-sized companies.

Privately, he runs a small ecological farm with his family, has been involved with Greenpeace for over 10 years and is booked as a polyglot for speeches and events.
